Next-level vlaai

When we heard about the meatball-peanut-sauce vlaai, we in the editorial office thought it was a belated April Fools’ joke. But no, you can actually order it from Multivlaai these days.

We do appreciate a bit of fusion and some twists on our plates. But some combinations even go too far for us. Yes, meatballs with peanut sauce are delicious. And a tasty vlaai is always welcome too. But combining the two Dutch delicacies?
Top 10
If you ask us, it’s a little (pea)nuts. Maarten Steinkamp, co-owner of Multivlaai, initially agreed with us. But because demand for savory options is growing, he gave it the go-ahead. And Maarten lost the bet that it wouldn’t be a hit by a mile. “The vlaai is already in the top 10. And that out of a total of fifty flavors.” Now we’re very curious indeed.
Summer fare
The combination was specially created for summer. According to Maarten, the best way to heat the vlaai is on the barbecue. And don’t stress: the vlaai comes with instructions, in case you’ve never thrown one on the barbecue before. So, basically, everyone.
Not the first time
People experiment with exciting vlaai flavors more often. Do you remember the kale vlaai ? But because the bakery mainly works with sweet products, making the meatball-peanut-sauce vlaai is still quite a challenge. Nevertheless, Maarten says this certainly won’t be the last savory vlaai. And they’re sticking with the quintessentially Dutch theme. What’s next? A sauerkraut vlaai?
The meatball-peanut-sauce vlaai is available until the end of September. So order it on the website quickly. Or don’t.
