Ode to fries: more gold on the streets

As many as 91% of Belgians agree: fries from the chip shop are inextricably linked to Belgian culture. And these golden-yellow delights are given extra attention during Fry Week. In a very artistic way, too.

More gold on the streets
Nowhere else in the world can you eat fries as delicious as those in Belgium. The taste and aroma of Belgian fries are unique, just like the chip-shop culture of our southern neighbours, which has even been recognised as intangible cultural heritage. The chip shop is an integral part of the streetscape, but this week they are taking it a step further—or should we say adding a dollop—by making fries appear in unexpected places throughout the streetscape.
Fries with… a statue!
Until 1 December, statues in Middelkerke, Kortrijk, Mechelen, Leuven and Hasselt will be dressed up for a week with a bag of chip-shop fries. In Kortrijk and Middelkerke, shark teeth will even be transformed into cones filled with fries! If that doesn’t make you crave those delicious fries…
