Painfully deadly or you’re lovin’ it: McDonald’s places McCrispy ad next to crematorium sign

mcdonalds mccrispy crematorium

Residents of the English town of Cornwall raised their eyebrows when they saw a McDonald’s billboard in their village. Not because they found the crunchy chicken burger on the poster particularly disgusting. No, it was mainly the location of the McCrispy billboard that was remarkable. It was positioned right next to… a road sign pointing to a ‘Crematorium.’

Some Cornwall residents did see the (dark) humor in it. ‘I’m lovin’ it!’, they spontaneously exclaimed when they realized what was going on. A handful of villagers thought it was downright tasteless. Either way, anyone craving a crispy McCrispy on their way to the crematorium knows where to go.

McCrispy: here to stay?

McDonald’s itself says it had absolutely no idea that the location of the McCrispy billboard could come across as unfortunate. Well, you either make the connection or you don’t. But the slogan ‘A new favourite, here to stay’ certainly doesn’t make things any better. Or perhaps it does, for those of us with a taste for dark humor. The chances of still spotting the billboard in this location are now slim. McDonald’s told The Guardian that the billboard would be removed as soon as possible. So at least the billboard is not here to stay.

McDonald’s as the last supper

Painful blunder or not, I want McDonald’s as my last supper anyway. What will I order? A large portion of fries, a strawberry milkshake and the divine Spicy Cheeseburger. And ideally, I’d like that supper to take place in the most beautiful McDonald’s in the world. Oh, and if I could make one final wish, I’d wish for these McDonald’s items to make a comeback. Then I can head toward the (bright yellow, M-shaped) light with peace of mind.
