Recipe: frozen HARIBO gummy bears

It may well be the most popular candy HARIBO has ever made: gummy bears. There’s simply no way you didn’t eat this candy as a child. They may no longer automatically end up in your shopping cart, but you know what… You could do that. Especially if you know the latest viral frozen gummy bears hack.

Remember? Years ago, HARIBO suddenly stopped making their licorice sticks. The reason: disappointing sales figures. Apparently, people outside the Netherlands aren’t nearly as crazy about licorice as we are. You don’t have to worry about HARIBO’s gummy bears disappearing from the range. HARIBO still makes gummy bears every day in insane quantities. If you placed all the gummy bears HARIBO produces in one year in a line, you could circle the world ten times. Crazy, right?
How to make frozen gummy bears
Okay, here’s another cool fun fact for parties and celebrations. You know what would be really cool? Blowing them away with a serving of frozen gummy bears. That trend has currently taken over TikTok. When you freeze gummy bears, they get a completely different texture. Only the center remains a little ‘jelly-like’. You’ve never eaten your favorite candy like this before!

The gummy bears freeze because they soak up moisture. For this hack, you do that by fully submerging them in Sprite. Sprite will give your gummy bears extra flavor. Fun fact: the gummy bears also become three times as large because of the moisture. How do you do it? Take a plastic container with a lid, put the gummy bears in it and pour in just enough Sprite to completely cover them with the soda. Place the sealed container in the refrigerator for a few hours. After the gummy bears have spent a night in the refrigerator, you still have to wait another three hours—until they come out of your freezer completely frozen. Did you only decide that evening that you wanted to serve the frozen gummy bears to your friends? Then you’ll be out of luck.
Watch your teeth
Three hours later, the bears should be completely frozen and ready to eat. They’re a little crunchy and taste extra sweet because of the Sprite. Delicious! A small warning: if ice-cold food makes you shoot through the ceiling with toothache, this may be a difficult one for you. Oh well, a gummy bear ice cream is just as delicious in that case.
