Snackspert: “I expected a low-budget baguette that was simply deliciously chemically tasty and disgusting, but this one genuinely tasted really good!”

Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates vlammetjes, has devoured at least 1,000 burgers in his life, suspects there is more mayonnaise than blood in his body, and normally shares his snack reviews on FavorFlav every other week. This was a really damn good week.

Garlic baguette from Albert Heijn

You know that feeling? That you absolutely don’t feel like going to that one friend’s birthday party, but you come home at 2 a.m. and think: damn, that was actually pretty fun! Well, that’s the feeling I got from this garlic-butter baguette from Albert Heijn’s freezer. I expected a low-budget baguette that was simply deliciously chemically tasty and disgusting, but this one genuinely tasted really good! How come? Like this: the bread is a little firmer, has a better bite, and the garlic butter isn’t even so intense that everyone automatically keeps 1.5 meters away from you. It’s simply a very solid baguette that you can eat with drinks, instead of only serving it once everyone has had eight beers and nobody cares what anything tastes like anymore. Nice! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Vegetarian burger from Albert Heijn

I want to say this right away: send more supermarket tips! Slide into my DMs like an average Temptation Island contestant does with every random hottie they follow on Instagram and send in that tip. That’s how I got tipped off about this mushroom gran formaggio burger from Albert Heijn by a follower. Thanks for that, because I would never have bought this myself. And it’s a really good burger! Deliciously juicy, not too thick, but what really makes it so good is the excellent balance of flavors between mushroom and cheese. With many mushroom dishes, I find that the mushroom flavor is far too prominent, but here the cheese flavor keeps it excellently in check. What more can I say about it? Yes, nothing. So: very tasty. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Pizza from O’ Panuozzo, Utrecht

I’m absolutely not open to bribery, but when I see a Neapolitan pizza, I’m quickly inclined to think it’s super tasty right away, although it has also simply never disappointed me. Just like lager: it never disappoints. So I was already happy that I got to try two pizzas from O’ Panuozzo in Utrecht (shared with a good friend, of course): the Diavola (spicy salami and N’duja, which is essentially spicy sausage) and the Casertena (black pork sausage with porcini cream, smoked cheese and pecorino). That’s quite a mouthful, so I’ll keep it brief from now on. The pizzas are top-notch, they have excellent flavor, and especially the Diavola ticks all the boxes on my taste checklist without any trouble. Deliciously spicy, great bite, wonderful San Marzano tomatoes—really top-notch. The Casertena is a very special one; the porcini cream makes you think of that one time you had a fancy meal in Italy while enjoying an excellent bottle of white wine. One small downside is that I don’t find the black pork sausage particularly bursting with flavor, which means the smoked cheese and cream take center stage. It’s still missing a little excitement, but otherwise it’s top-notch. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
