Snackspert is lyrical about the Bicky Burger: get a Bicky at home as soon as possible

Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates vlammetjes, has already devoured at least 1,000 burgers in his life, suspects there is more mayonnaise in his body than blood, and shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav every other week. This week, two highlights and also a deep low point in snack land.

Double Trouble burger from De Buurman, Amsterdam

Yes, it’s all well and good when there’s a crossover between The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, and you can rightly label such a combination ‘legendary’, but what would you call a hamburger with a kaassoufflé in it? Huh? De Buurman in Amsterdam serves this Double Trouble and believe me, despite the fact that you’ll need a bypass the next day, it’s completely worth it. This is truly fantastic. A wonderfully soft bun with two thin burger patties, with a kaassoufflé between them and melted cheddar underneath. Add some creamy but mild mayonnaise on top and you’ve got a bunful of happiness. Let it cool down first before you eat it, though, because a burnt tongue is worse than getting hit by King Kong. What a flavour enrichment the kaassoufflé between a burger is—you have no idea what you’re experiencing. Minor drawback: the meat was cooked a little too long, so it doesn’t achieve the desired juicy result. But you absolutely have to try this. Someday. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Vegan oven-baked bitterballen from Albert Heijn

I’ve been impressed by vegan bitterballen for some time now, and more and more varieties are appearing on supermarket shelves. Albert Heijn is now hoping to benefit from this ever-growing popularity too—after the vegetarian version, there are now vegan balls as well. And it was a surprise, because they were disappointing. That’s strange, because I’ve been amazed by the quality of several vegan bitterballen on multiple occasions, but these really didn’t taste good. They have a good texture and a lovely crispy crust, but the flavour is veeeeeeeery much too bouillon-like (is that a word? No? Well, it is now). The stock flavour is far too strong and leaves a nasty, bland aftertaste. No, they really need to take another look at these. This isn’t how it should be. ⭐️⭐️

The Belgian Bicky Burger

Hereby, I’m calling on the Netherlands and especially all petrol stations along the motorway: get a Bicky Burger in stock as soon as possible. I’ve had so many lukewarm and bland burgers in my life, and the reputation of many petrol stations when it comes to food isn’t exactly stellar either. I have the solution: the Bicky. Near Kruibeke, I had the regular Bicky Burger at the petrol station and do you know what it is? This is what a simple burger should be like. Low expectations, maximum results. Good bun, good meat, excellent Bicky sauce, excellent Bicky dressing—just very good. And that while it’s a standard formula that can be prepared by any Mitchell who always got frikandel rolls for lunch during his teenage years. It’s time for the Bicky Burger to make its way into the Netherlands, along every motorway. Even if it’s near Hoogezand in Groningen. Who’s with me? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
