So chill: with this trick, you can peel garlic in no time

Knoflook pellen

Unless you’re a fan of chopped garlic in a jar, you’ll really have to give it a go: peeling garlic. Sometimes the task goes smoothly and you can remove the skin pretty quickly. But then there are those annoying sticky garlic cloves that require a lot of fiddling. The result: dirty nails, dirty fingers, dirty everything. With this tip, the skin comes off the clove in no time and you’ll deal with all that mess in 20 seconds.

That means you can also move on to step two nice and quickly: chopping garlic.

Pop garlic in the microwave

You don’t need a knife for this trick. What you do need: your microwave. It basically does all the work for you. Simply place your garlic clove in the microwave and turn it on. After about 10 seconds, you’ll hear a popping sound: that’s the garlic skin bursting at the seams.

Some microwaves need to be set for at least 30 seconds. If that’s the case with your microwave, the popping, crackling sound is the sign to take the garlic clove out of the microwave. Otherwise, set it to 10 seconds. Your clove may need a little longer—that’s something you’ll have to try out. But it will burst. Afterwards, you can pull the skin completely off the clove in one go. Chill!

And thanks to this tip, you’ll have a huge supply of freshly chopped garlic at home for the rest of the year. So many garlic hacks, and we just can’t get enough of them!
