So delicious! The smashed croissant and where to buy it

A croissant: delicious! But do you know what’s even more delicious? A smashed croissant! The first Smash Croissants has now opened in the Netherlands, ready to conquer the rest of the country.

The smashed croissant isn’t a new invention, but it’s finally really starting to gain a foothold. Around the corner from the FavorFlav editorial office in Amsterdam — coincidence doesn’t exist — the Netherlands’ first Smash Croissant has just opened.
Dark kitchen
This branch of Smash Croissant is what’s known as a ‘dark kitchen’; in other words, a production kitchen for delivered meals (via UberEats or Thuisbezorgd). But there’s good news: outside (Helicopterstraat 20) there’s a picnic table, so if you’re nearby, you can also order one of these sweet treats here and eat it on the spot.
Smashed croissants with different toppings
A smashed croissant with your choice of topping costs 5.99 euros. It’s sweet. And we all already eat far too much sugar. But still: this is delicious. A selection of the toppings: dark chocolate and coconut, white chocolate with Oreo, and for those who can’t get it sweet enough: caramel chocolate with salted peanuts and hazelnuts.

Everything smashed
By the way, smashing everything has been going on for a while now. From smashed potatoes and smashed broccoli to the ultimate smash: smashburgers. It seems anything can be flattened. And honestly: it really does improve the taste. That super-crispy texture; delicious!
Making smashed croissants at home
Want to make smashed croissants at home? Use fresh or bake-off croissants. In the latter case: let them cool for a moment, then flatten them with something heavy. Once flattened, toast them briefly in the toaster. And then: butter, cheese, grated egg; anything goes. My favorite: a thick layer of pistachio paste. HEAVEN.
