There has been too little rain, meaning the grass has not had enough moisture and the cows are producing less milk. Or it is due to delivery problems at Campina. Or something is wrong at the distribution center. Supermarket managers have put notes on the empty shelves explaining why there is no carton of milk left to be found. Strange explanations, because: too little rain means too little grass? Is that really true?

Empty shelves
No, farmers say. ‘There is no shortage of dairy, but Jumbo refuses to pay the dairies a cost-covering price.’ It would involve an increase in costs of a few cents per liter.
