Sushi lovers: this is what your life is still missing
Two designers were amazed by the amount of sushi they had eaten recently, and by all the plastic waste they had caused as a result. That was the inspiration for this lamp: an enlarged sushi bottle.
Plastic straws and stirrers have been banned, but when you order sushi, you do get one of those plastic fish filled with soy sauce. Designers Jeffrey Simpson and Angus Ware started calculating how much sushi they had already eaten together, late at night in the design studio. And how many little fish bottles they had already thrown away as a result. It was ironic that such a fish would ultimately end up in the ocean, worsening the lives of real fish there. Hey, could they make something out of that? That is how the idea for their latest design, the Heliograf Light Soy, came about.
Sustainable, but expensive
You can see it immediately: the lamp is shaped like the soy sauce bottle. The designers made two versions: a floor lamp and a pendant lamp. The fish is made of special frosted glass, while the cap is made of aluminium. The duo tried to produce the design using sustainable materials that can be reused once you have grown tired of the lamps. Want one? Sit down and take a deep breath: the floor lamp costs 495 Australian dollars, or 320 euros, and the pendant lamp can come home with you for 399 dollars, or 255 euros.
