Thanks to PostNL, You Can Lick a Bitterbal
If you’re a true foodie who also collects stamps, life isn’t easy. There are plenty of stamps featuring the royal family, as well as butterflies, windmills and kittens, and even the entire UNESCO World Heritage has appeared on a stamp. But if you wanted a tasty stamp that combines your hobbies, you had to wait a long time. Until today, that is, because finally there’s a stamp on the market featuring: bitterballen.
The bitterbal stamp is the final stamp in a series of five with which PostNL is highlighting Dutch culinary heritage. Earlier editions featured a smoked sausage, a tompouce, a carrot and a slice of bread with chocolate sprinkles. A special first-day cover, on which the stamp is postmarked, also features the recipe for authentic Dutch bitterballen.
No licking required
With this bitterbal stamp, you can simply frank your mail – provided you still send any. A PostNL spokesperson has noticed that somewhat more cards and letters are being sent again, especially during corona times, and perhaps a bitterbal stamp is an extra incentive to put something in the mail again? There’s no need to lick the stamps; they’re stickers.
