Normally, you place your frozen sandwiches flat on a plate or on the counter. At least, that’s what I’m assuming here. But thawing them can take quite a long time. The trick lies precisely in the way you place the sandwiches. Who would have thought that such a small change could make such a big difference?
Building sandwiches
What do you need to do? Build a sort of little house out of your sandwiches. Place the two sandwiches against each other with their sides facing upward. As if you’re making a roof with your sandwiches. This allows the cold to escape from your sandwiches much more easily. This is also the ultimate way to let your piping-hot toasted cheese sandwiches cool down without making them soggy. Ideal, right?
It’s also sometimes said that you can easily thaw your sandwiches in the microwave. It’s certainly easy and quick, but your sandwiches won’t exactly turn out delicious. The bread can become chewy or hard. That’s because the moisture is drawn out of the bread and evaporates in the microwave. So if you still want reasonably tasty thawed bread, you’ll need to have at least a little patience.
Freezing twice = a no-go
Have you thawed your sandwiches and then decided at the last minute that you’d rather take a salad to work? Erm, you’d better eat those sandwiches as soon as possible anyway. Because refreezing them isn’t an option. Bacteria can start multiplying when you repeatedly freeze and heat your food. Plus, it makes the bread extra dry. Stress or no stress, at least take a moment to think clearly about whether you actually want to take those sandwiches out of the freezer.
