Baomazing

Bao makes me so happy. Correction: good bao. I’ve been seriously disappointed a few times, and then they were absolutely disgusting. But I could immediately see it at this Baomazing stand: this is good. Very good, in fact. So much choice-induced stress, because this was the first stand where I was getting something and of course I still wanted to try all sorts of things – but at the same time, I also wanted to work my way through this entire menu. Difficult, difficult. In the end, I chose the crispy chicken bao (spicy, love it) and the Xiao Long Bao dumpling. DELICIOUS.

Mori Sushi Bar

After that, I stayed in Asian cuisine for a little longer, because it was time for sushi. Now, I’m (unfortunately) allergic to all living creatures pulled from the sea, so I went for a veggie roll – which was very tasty. But I was really gutted, because one of my table companions exclaimed that this was the best sushi she’d had since her trip to South Africa (this was followed by a passionate speech about the divine sushi you can apparently eat there). Never before had I wanted so badly to be able to eat fish. Bummer.

Bavette

Luckily, I can eat meat, and I absolutely love meat too. On the recommendation of a Foodhallen employee, we got the bitterballen here. And I’m hugely grateful to him for that recommendation, because I don’t tend to order bitterballen when I’m somewhere and really want to eat well and try as much as possible. Because bitterballen… We know those by now, right? Well, these are Wagyu bitterballen, and I definitely hadn’t tried those before. And now I never want any other kind of bitterballen again. Seriously. Divine.

The bar

HAHA. Yes, sorry, but this one deserves a separate shout-out too: they had quite a few speciality beers on tap, and I love that.

Taqueria LIMA

The nachos disappeared seriously quickly (we shared one while waiting for the rest of the food), so I didn’t even manage to take a photo of them. But believe me: that’s a good sign. You can have it with pulled beef, pulled chicken (we had beef), or veggie. The tacos looked tip-top too, but unfortunately we couldn’t order them because it was so busy. Next time, then.

Don’t skip: Tante San and Vietyam

When I go back to Foodhallen Rotterdam, I really should have lunch and dinner there. Because there are still so many dishes I want to try: we ordered a large platter from Vietyam with all kinds of street-food snacks to share, and now I also want to try the larger dishes. The same goes for Tante San, where I tried the satay and would have loved to take a litre tub of that peanut sauce home with me. I definitely want to eat much more extensively there too. Actually, the entire menu.
