The carrot that makes vegans angry

wortel kebab

We already found vegans poking fun at hunters pretty hilarious, but it looks like there’s another (curly) tail to this story: among all the plantbased products that resemble meat, this butcher decided to turn the tables.

Not so friendly

Tom Samways is a butcher in western Wales and, caught up in the surge of vegan chicken and vegan bleeding burgers, thought: ‘Hold on a minute’. He made a ‘carrot’…out of meat. What started as a joke attracted more and more customers to the shop (as many as three hundred a day), but also earned him plenty of comments on social media, ‘including some not very nice comments’, according to Samways.

Fake vegan

He explains that they are actually just pork kebabs, shaped from high-quality minced meat and coated with a herb/paprika-powder dressing to make them orange. Add a sprig of curly parsley and his little joke was ready.

Awareness

Despite the aforementioned surge in the plantbased movement, T Samways High Class Butchers is doing well in Cardigan, Wales. According to the butcher, this is because customers (whether they eat meat or not) are generally shopping more consciously. They are much less interested in supermarket meat; they want to be in more direct contact with sellers and producers and know more about the animals’ origins and welfare during their lives.

Samways says he will keep the ‘carrots’ in the range for a while longer because they are selling well. We are curious to see what the next little jab will be, and who will be taking aim at whom!
