The First Open Frikandel-Eating Championship: Are You Taking Part?

Is the frikandel (also) your favorite snack? And do you have no trouble stuffing three (or more) disco rolls or open backs down one after another? Then you’re the perfect candidate to become the frikandel king or queen of the first Open Frikandel-Eating Championship!

The challenge (and struggle) is real
Eating as many frikandellen as possible in one hour. That’s the challenge Nick van Waaijenburg of Eethuis Reintje is setting the championship participants. Who comes up with something like that? Like everything else, this idea started with an unbridled passion for the country’s most popular snack. Nick: “It’s my favorite snack. So my motto is: ‘a trip to the snack bar without a frikandel is like a bicycle without a bell.’ As far as I’m concerned, its flavor and texture make it the ultimate snack, although they can also wake me up in the middle of the night for a goulash croquette or a portion of fresh fries,” says the frikandel lover.
Expert frikandel jury
How many frikandellen you manage to eat will be carefully monitored and checked by the jury. Due to the coronavirus measures, a maximum of fifteen participants can take part per hour. Nick says that if there is enough interest in the championship, there will be two rounds. And the prize? A golden deep-fryer and a Vette Pret surprise package!
Nick’s tip
The Open Frikandel-Eating Championship will be held on Saturday, July 11 at 2:00 p.m. You can take part in the competition for 15 euros. Nick also shares a golden tip for getting your hands on that golden deep-fryer: dip the frikandel in a sauce such as mayonnaise, applesauce or curry. That way, it slides down nice and easily! My tip: start practicing this weekend. Stuffing frikandellen down your throat isn’t something you can just do; this is top-level sport, people! Good luck!
