The secret ingredient for the most delicious pizza sauce

I always think making pizza yourself is such a fun thing to do. Also because I often get overwhelmed by choice in pizzerias; ideally, I’d like two different halves. For example, one half with truffle, and the other half with spicy blue cheese and ‘nduja — such a good combination! And when you make pizzas yourself, you can decide all of that yourself. But it all starts with a good pizza sauce — and I happen to have a golden tip for that.

Admittedly, making the dough yourself can be a bit of a task (but it mainly takes a lot of time), and you can also buy the sauce in a jar… But it’s so much more delicious when you make everything yourself.
This surprising ingredient really belongs in pizza sauce
But even if you use sauce from a carton or jar — no judgement — make sure you still add this secret ingredient: it will seriously take your pizza to the next level. That ingredient is grated Parmesan cheese. Maybe you already used it on top of the pizza, but mixing it into the sauce is so much better. The savory, salty flavor of the cheese goes so well with the sweetness of the tomato and really brings the whole thing into balance flavor-wise.
Goodbye, soggy crust
A little Parmesan also makes the sauce thicker, so if it turned out a bit watery, now you know what to do. That might just save your entire pizza, because watery sauce quickly leads to a soggy crust — and that’s such a shame when it comes to your pizza. If you’d like to add a little extra to your sauce, choose garlic: the combination of tomato, spices, Parmesan cheese and garlic is truly heavenly.
