After binge-watching Netflix’ Street Food in one go, I immediately started looking for plane tickets. I have to go there. But where exactly is ‘there’? Netflix does mention the names and cities, but not the addresses. I looked them up for you, made a map and am sharing it here. Long live the internet.
Smart Fish
The first Smart Fish stall was opened 65 years ago by the grandparents of Grace Chia Hui Lin. She still makes the fish stew exactly as they did back then, with wood ear mushrooms, pork, onions, garlic, hot peppers, tofu, lots of Chinese cabbage and fried fish heads coated in yam flour. Although the stew has not changed, Grace has worked hard to improve and modernize Smart Fish, successfully, because she now attracts more customers than ever.

Magistrate Liu’s
Li-Hua Liu-Zhu has been selling turkey rice for 50 years. She cooks the turkey very slowly for more than 12 hours to create a flavorful broth, and tops the turkey rice with fried pork fat and shallots. Now she is also teaching her son Zon-Yuan Liu the finer points of the trade.

A Eh Douhua
Douhua, or tofu pudding, is known as Taiwan’s ultimate dessert, and Tsui-Eh Wang-Li’s is made according to an authentic recipe. The dish takes days to make and is often topped with sweetened tapioca pearls, peanuts and mung beans. Need we say more?

Song Shan Tu Yao
He is called ‘Goat Uncle’ and is known for his ‘three-day, three-night goat stew’, a dish that originated long ago (during China’s Sui dynasty). The goat meat is immersed in medicinal wine and smoked for three days in an underground pit. Goat Uncle is one of the few people who still makes it this way.
