In the past, I would have laughed you right in the face if you’d told me that one day I’d be drinking alcohol-free champagne. Yes, yes, I know: you’re not actually allowed to call it that, but you know what I mean. Bubbles without alcohol. An outrage! But now, sadder and wiser, I know better. Because sometimes you simply can’t drink alcohol. Because of religion, medication, pregnancy, driving, or because the idea of a god-awful hangover is simply impossible to stomach. How does that work?
NOA Sparkling is a de-alcoholized sparkling wine. This means that in its cheerful past, it was actually wine, or fermented grape juice. After the alcohol has been removed—and this can be done using various dealcoholization techniques that I won’t bore you with—the aromas are captured and put back into the wine. It sounds like abracadabra, but the point is that increasingly better base wine is being used, which means the quality of alcohol-free (sparkling) wine is getting better and better.
