Of all the useful kitchen hacks you can collect, plenty of them can be found on TikTok. Cleaning Tupperware containers, removing white tendons from chicken breast, peeling boiled eggs quickly; we’ve seen it all go by. But this former chef has a few more for you!

Use the broccoli stem

Some tips may already be familiar to you, in which case you’re doing great if you’ve been doing this for ages; others may be real eye-openers. The use of the broccoli stem falls into the first category: never throw it away! Sauté it with soy sauce or tamari and garlic, and it makes a great addition to your meal.

Instant herb butter

He finely chops fresh herbs that are starting to wilt, then mixes them with some melted butter (straight from the microwave) and pours the mixture into an ice cube tray. You’ll always have a super flavor booster on hand!

Honey – let it go

Honey that sticks to and clings to a spoon is pretty annoying when you need it for a recipe. Prevent this by first greasing the spoon with your finger and a drop of neutral oil.

Bell pepper efficiency

He cuts a bell pepper by first slicing off the top and bottom, then making a lengthwise cut, laying the pepper on its side and placing the knife along the ribs while rolling the pepper along it. Be careful of your fingers, though!

I’m squeezing it

How does he squeeze a lemon as efficiently as possible? Not with a press, but by clamping it in a pair of kitchen tongs and squeezing really hard. You may want to hold a sieve or your fingers underneath to catch the seeds.

The Tork trick

We’ve mentioned this before: professional kitchens often have a roll of sturdy paper towels from the Tork brand hanging up. A damp sheet of this (or another paper towel) under your cutting board prevents it from dangerously sliding around while you’re cutting with your good knife.

Wonder finger

Did some eggshell get into the bowl when cracking a raw egg? Maybe you often struggle around with a finger in the mess while that piece refuses to stick to anything, ever. Try it with a wet finger!
