This is it: the tastiest kruidnoot in the Netherlands
Sinterklaas purists may get shivers down their spines, but it’s true: the first kruidnoten have been in stores for weeks already. And they’re delicious! Especially those kruidnoten with all kinds of special flavors, such as Red Velvet Kruidnoot and stroopwafel kruidnoot, are flying off the shelves by the kilo. What is the tastiest kruidnoot flavor?
Every year, Bolletje holds a kruidnoten competition. Fans can suggest new kruidnoot flavors. The kruidnoot is coated with a layer of chocolate in a special flavor. Last year’s winner, Red Velvet, was a huge success.
Move over taai taai
Those kruidnoten in a delicious coating seem to be on the rise anyway. Taai taai and chocolate coins are nowhere to be seen yet, but stores are already stocked with kruidnoten in the most exotic flavors. Have you tried the pumpkin spice kruidnoten at HEMA yet (delicious with that Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte)? The disco-mix kruidnoten, coffee kruidnoot or tompouce kruidnoten? Albert Heijn has a chocolate-chip kruidnoot in its range, LU has launched Bastogne kruidnoten, and pepernoten factory Van Delft goes all out with, for example, tiramisu kruidnoten, unicorn kruidnoten and cola kruidnoten.
Thousands of flavors
Bolletje turned those new flavors into a competition. Radio DJ Domien Verschuren (QMusic) called on listeners to come up with new flavors, and thousands of original ideas were shared with Bolletje. They narrowed that overwhelming number down to three finalists: Banoffee, Grandma’s Apple Pie and Triple Chocolate Chip. All three sound delicious… but the winner, after a few weeks of intense deliberation, is: Grandma’s Apple Pie. That flavor was created by Jeanine, so her name is also printed on the bags of kruidnoten. If all goes well, her apple-pie kruidnoten will be available in stores everywhere.
