This is the tastiest sandwich of 2025

Bas Diks winnaar NK Lekkerste Broodje 2025

Bas Diks has been competing for the Dutch Tastiest Sandwich Championship, held at the hospitality trade fair Horecava, for years. Today, during the fortieth edition of this competition, he did it again. For the second time, his sandwich was named the Tastiest Sandwich. What exactly can you expect?

This year, twelve contestants took part in the 2025 Dutch Tastiest Sandwich Championship. The task was to make five identical creations on stage, on the spot, within eight minutes, which were then tasted and assessed by the professional jury. The jury considered appearance, creativity, taste experience, ease of eating, composition and purchase price.

Autumn creation

Bas, from caterer Diks Authentiek Culinair in Harreveld, won the 2025 Dutch Tastiest Sandwich Championship with his creation ‘Autumn’: an Achterhoek bun with, among other things, wild boar pork rib, barbecue sauce made from autumn fruit and mushrooms, nut butter, nettle moss, chanterelle and spruce tapenade, and autumn leaves made from beetroot, pumpkin, mushrooms and nettle.

Bike rides with his daughter

“The last time I won was in 2011, so it’s truly wonderful to be able to experience this again after all these years,” the emotional winner said afterwards. “The fact that I drew inspiration from the bike rides in nature that I take with my one-and-a-half-year-old daughter makes the victory even more special.” Diks also won gold in 2011, in the Catering category that existed at the time.

The jury was very impressed by the winning sandwich. “It was almost too beautiful to eat, but it also turned out to be the tastiest sandwich. As a jury, we unanimously reached that verdict. The sandwich itself was beautifully crisp, the meat very tender and flavourful, partly thanks to the nut butter. There was also an incredible amount of creativity in this sandwich, and autumn was fully present.”

More delicious sandwiches

Silver went to Sjoerd Mampaey of Midas in Woerden. His ‘Watermelon Sugar High’ consisted of, among other things, chicken thigh with jerk spices, fried chicken skin, candied watermelon in barbecue glaze, watermelon chutney, sweet-and-sour watermelon, goat cheese cream and feta crumble on a Tuscan schiacciata. “A surprising explosion of flavour,” the jury said. This is the second year in a row that Sjoerd Mampaey has won a prize; in 2024, he took gold at the Dutch Tastiest Sandwich Championship.

The Pastrami B.E.C. Sandwich by Lisette de Jong of The Blueberry in Amersfoort won bronze. Her brioche sandwich was topped with, among other things, slow-cooker pastrami, egg, bacon crumble, pickled red onion and dill pickles, cheddar and Gouda cheese, and American mustard. The jury was particularly impressed by the ‘amazing pastrami and the soft scrambled eggs’.
