This is the winner of the Great Grillworst Test 2022
Every year, the Great Grillworst Test is organized – a professional competition by the Royal Dutch Butchers’ Association (KNS). Grillworst is often the butcher’s calling card and a favorite among many consumers. More than 80 butchers submitted their grillworst for this professional competition. But who really makes the very best grillworst in the country?
Craftsmanship
“Making a good grillworst requires craftsmanship. So many factors influence the end result. The finalists made an honest product with a good to very good characteristic grilled flavor,” said the jury, which did not make its decision overnight. Based on an assessment at the beginning of January, the grillworsts from the 10 finalists were judged on aroma, taste, composition and processing. The assessment was conducted under the supervision of the Expertise Center for the Butchery Craft.
The winner
The winner of the Great Grillworst Test professional competition is Slagerij Martin Meijer from Lekkerkerk. The jury said about the winning grillworst: “This grillworst is a product with a truly artisanal appearance. A sausage with a delicious bite, characteristic grilled flavor and beautiful color. A grillworst that customers will certainly come back for.”
Martin Meijer: “I’m so proud! I had already made the top 10 of this professional competition several times, and now I’m the winner. A wonderful achievement, together with my team. A reward for the hard work that went into this artisanal and delicious product.”
Slagerij de Bruin from Beusichem won second prize. Third prize went to Keurslager Rien en Irma Baas from Leerdam.
