This is why your stomach rumbles when you’re hungry

In the morning, we’re often in a hurry, and being in a hurry goes hand in hand with skipping breakfast. Only to produce a sound at the office a little later that makes the growl of the monster of Lognes seem like nothing. You’re hungry. And your stomach is more than happy to let you know, but why exactly?

Your stomach is growling and your belly is rumbling with hunger. As soon as we notice and hear that, we need to get the ultimate grilled cheese sandwich according to Gordon Ramsey, a tompouce or steamed omelet in us as quickly as possible. But does that sound actually come from our stomach? Nope.. The sound comes from your intestines.

Every bite counts

When your intestines are at work, gases and liquids are constantly being moved around. The rumbling of your intestines is often accompanied by a feeling of hunger, and that’s not without reason. Being hungry is a signal from the brain that your body is short of certain fluids. Your brain therefore sets your intestines to work to make use of every possible leftover piece of food and push it out of your intestines.

Empty

But when your intestines are completely empty, the contractions of the intestinal wall only move intestinal juices and gases, and no food. That process causes the rumbling. A clear sign to open those kitchen cupboards and look for some food!
