Anyone who has (ever) worked in hospitality knows: you get the strangest requests and reviews. As a hospitality business, you can give in to it, but you can also make a joke out of it. Like Tom’s Diner in Denver.

At Tom’s Diner, they simply charge an extra $0.38 for every stupid question. If you ask something like ‘Is there water in the ice?’ or ‘Do you have gluten-free bread too? Oh, and make it a beer’, you will simply get the ‘Stupid Question’ charge added to the bill. It is even listed on the restaurant’s menu under ‘Sides’.

Don’t get angry right away—it is only a joke. Tom’s Diner told Today Food that they simply wanted to add some humor to the menu. “There is already enough misery in the world, so we like to keep things light.”

Great success

It turns out to be a great success; some guests even make a sport of asking as many stupid questions as possible. Does that mean the joke misses its mark? At Tom’s Diner, they don’t think so. “It gets people thinking about the stupid questions that are sometimes asked and, most importantly, they have fun.”

More menu jokes

By the way, this isn’t the first time Tom’s Diner has pulled a joke on the menu. Under ‘Healthy Options’, alongside cottage cheese and soup of the day, you will find the options ‘Skip your next meal’ and ‘Walk home’.
