This restaurant has something to offer influencers – something they would rather not accept
‘Can I eat for free at your restaurant? I’ll share photos on my social media account.’ Restaurants sometimes go completely crazy over influencers who want to eat out for free this way. This Greek restaurant in Kos has found a good solution: they offer influencers a fair trade. The result? Zero influencers accepted.
‘My family owns a restaurant in Kos. They regularly receive emails from influencers asking if they can come and eat in exchange for posts and photos on their socials. We’ve had the same response for years,’ Unbassador writes on Reddit. ‘We offer them a trade: the influencers pay for their food, and we donate the money they spend to people who are struggling. Homeless people, for example, or refugees.’
Socially responsible dining out
According to Unbassador, it’s a win-win-win situation: the influencer gets to enjoy a delicious meal, people who really need it get a good meal, and the restaurant benefits from the influencer’s photos and posts. Even better: the influencer can also show that social responsibility is a priority for them. Is this the perfect solution?

Unbassador reveals it straight away: over the past three years, not a single influencer has accepted the offer. Zero. Nobody. It’s actually unbelievable: how could anyone object to this? According to social media expert Arianna O’Dell, it is telling that influencers ask for free food and drinks. ‘Working with influencers can be a good idea for companies. But the influencers who beg businesses for a free meal are usually not people with a large reach and significant added value for the company.’
Message deleted
The reactions Unbassador receives on Reddit are very positive. People love the idea of coming to eat and then contributing to meals for homeless people. ‘I would have paid for my food anyway, and if that also means I can help someone else: amazing!’ But the influencers? Silence. ‘We don’t hear anything more from them,’ Unbassador says, ‘and sometimes they delete their request. Maybe they’re embarrassed, but I don’t think that’s very likely.’
