This star chef will cook your Christmas dinner for just under 5,000 euros

Oh no, the hospitality industry will remain closed this year over Christmas too. So you’ll have to conjure up something convincing in your own kitchen. But if you have a well-filled bank account, you don’t need to stress, because this three-course chef will come and cook for you for 4,750 euros.

Jacob Jan Boerma was the chef at De Leest in Vaassen, where he cooked his way to three Michelin stars. These days, he rocks it at his pizzeria No Rules and at The White Room at the Krasnapolsky, both in Amsterdam. At least when there isn’t a coronavirus-related closure of the hospitality industry.
Cosy in a onesie
For the first time in years, Jacob Jan thought he would celebrate Christmas at home, enjoying Home Alone on TV or Chris Rea on the radio in a onesie with ready-made cheese fondue, like the rest of the Netherlands, but no—the fates decided otherwise. He has been hired to cook a Christmas menu for almost five thousand euros. For four people, in order to comply with the coronavirus protocol. “That’s fucking a lot of money!” he tells online chef magazine STRRN.
Turbulent year
As a joke, a private dining experience was put on the website, and it sold out in no time: on both Christmas days, the top chef will be stirring pots in people’s homes. Not that he minds, because the extra revenue is obviously a welcome bonus. “I think it’s great to hear that people are doing it because they want to support me. They know that I’ve had a turbulent, difficult year, lost and missed out on tons of money. This way, I can make up for some of it.”
Three quarters of an hour of Ben Cramer
Ridiculous amounts? An insane amount of money? Of course, it’s a substantial sum, but try comparing it with Dutch artists: Lee Towers charges six thousand euros for a performance, Ben Cramer will sing for you for three quarters of an hour for 2,250 euros, and you’ll pay 3,500 euros for a short concert by George Baker. And star chef Jacob Jan brings his own groceries and is busy with his guests all evening. To quote the Gooische Meisjes: better too expensive than unavailable.
