Plastic wrap is so annoying because it really loves itself and is rather fond of sticking to itself. At the same time, it refuses to stick to all kinds of surfaces. You may get lucky with glass or shiny ceramic, but want to cover a plastic bowl or baking tin with plastic wrap? Forget it. It just keeps floating along the edges so awkwardly that it is literally no use to you.

Sticky trick

Gordon Ramsay tells us about a clever trick that makes plastic wrap stick to any surface. Simply wet the surface with a little water. With a bowl, for example, this applies to the rim. If you then place the wrap on it, it stays exactly where you put it. Ideal! Not only when you want to cover bowls, plates, and baking tins, but also when you want to roll up wraps, for example. Moisten your cutting board, place the wrap on it, and fill your wrap on top. The plastic wrap stays in place, and you can then roll your wrap closed super easily.

Why does this work? Plastic wrap contains polyethylene. That is what makes the wrap stick. When it comes into contact with water, that adhesive function is strengthened. As a result, the wrap stays in place extra well.
