It’s almost rare—this is how little the sun has shown itself lately. At the time of writing, there is fi-nal-ly a watery sun shining through the windows, after we’ve gone without it for about two weeks. So it makes perfect sense that you’ve lit plenty of candles over the past few weeks to make things a little cozier. Did you know that sprinkling salt over your candles is a really good idea?
I like to turn my home into a kind of gigantic altar, that’s how many candles I light in winter. So if there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s that those things are incredibly expensive. The longer you can make your candles last, the better. And that’s exactly why you should sprinkle salt over your candles.
Eternal flame
Salt slows down the burning and melting process. The grains of salt absorb excess candle wax, causing the candle to drip less. As a result, your candles burn down slowly and evenly. Plus, it doesn’t turn into such a messy situation with candle wax creeping everywhere. Great, right? This trick works for both large candles and small tea lights. You only need to sprinkle a little table salt over the candles before lighting them. One more tip: put your candles in the freezer for two hours before burning them. This helps even more to prevent your burning candles from dripping. Trimming the wick shorter can help too!
So salt turns out to be multifunctional. Obviously as a seasoning in your dishes, but also as a household helper, a solution for yellow sweat stains on your T-shirt… Better stock up on a few extra containers, then.
