Ways to Get Smarter from Alcohol (According to Research)

wine country

‘Enjoy, but drink in moderation’ is still the best slogan for alcohol as far as I’m concerned. Short, concise, and right on the mark. Because alcohol really isn’t terribly bad for you every now and then, but of course you shouldn’t immediately dive into a vat of beer. But besides health benefits, alcohol can do even more for you: it can make you smarter. Yaaa, seriously — if you drink in moderation, that is.

There are even several ways alcohol can make you smarter — and I’ve listed them for you.

1. It makes learning a second language easier

This study was conducted among German students who wanted to learn Dutch: one group was given a pint of beer, while the other got a pint of non-alcoholic beer. And what did they find? The students who drank alcoholic beer scored much higher in their conversation with Dutch people. There you go.

2. It helps you think more clearly

Sounds a bit like the opposite of reality, because that’s exactly what does not happen when you drink too much. But if you don’t drink too much, it can actually give you new insights because it helps you relax more. In addition, you’re less inclined to overthink everything, and therefore reach solutions more quickly.

3. It’s good for your creativity

According to research, two glasses of alcohol can already help you think more inventively — and that can certainly come in handy at work. For example, people who had two glasses were much faster at solving puzzles.
