10x Completely Ridiculously Unnecessary Facts About McDonald’s

I know it’s not healthy either, but still: I’ve ordered it regularly over the past few months. Those delicious, thinnest fries in existence, with that American fry sauce and chicken nuggets on the side… I’m lovin’ it. I wouldn’t call myself an expert on the restaurant with the big yellow M, but did you know these things about McDonald’s? I learned them from my colleague Kiki at Amayzine:

1. Speaking of that intro song from Maccie for a moment. Did you know it was sung by Justin Timberlake? No way. Check out the video.

2. McDonald’s once served pizza. Yep, in 1989 they thought it was a good idea. The baking time turned out to be a bit disappointing, though (11 minutes), and Maccie stands for fast service, so they scrapped the pizza.

3. Because: the average waiting time at McDonald’s is 90 seconds.

4. The first Big Mac was sold in 1967. Back then, the hamburger cost just, uh, 45 cents.

5. You-don’t-want-to-know-but-it’s-true: the Caesar salad is fattier than the hamburger. So please, stop trying to be healthy when you go for the salad.

6. For just 350 euros, you can officially get married at McDonald’s. You do have to fly to Hong Kong, but then you’ve got something to show for it. A party among the chicken nuggets and milkshakes—that’s what you want!

7. Every year, McDonald’s buys 1,542,000,000 kilos of potatoes. With that, they claim to be the biggest potato consumer on this planet.

8. Somewhere in the world, a new McDonald’s opens every four hours.

9. In America, there are more McDonald’s restaurants than hospitals. Seriously: 10,660 hospitals compared with 14,350 McDonald’s restaurants.

10. It can take up to 51 days for you to fully digest a Big Mac. 51 days… That’s almost two months.
