We tasted Jumbo’s new Bossche Bol Easter eggs: here’s what we think

We’re still in full-on January mode and yet: the Easter eggs are already back on the shelves. Sorry, but I still have the Christmas decorations up at home! (Not entirely healthy either, I know.) The only Easter eggs we here in the editorial office were willing to make an exception for were Jumbo’s Bossche Bol eggs. And so we did. Was it worth it or not?

We’ve been bombarded with Easter eggs in unusual flavours for a few years now. Jamin always takes the crown in that department. Last year, their Pornstar Martini eggs were our absolute favourite. When we spotted Jumbo’s Bossche Bol eggs—their newest flavour this year—expectations immediately went sky high. Would this already be the undisputed Easter egg winner of the year? As in: one shot at goal, straight in?
First impression
The Bossche Bol eggs come in a dark chocolate flavour. That fits perfectly with the style of the Bossche Bol: it, too, is covered in a thick layer of real dark chocolate. The eggs are wrapped in purple foil with red and white dots. Cheerful, to say the least. Of course, we can’t say it’s instantly recognisable as the ‘Bossche Bol’ flavour, the way a blue wrapper goes with milk chocolate and red with dark chocolate. These are the first Bossche Bol eggs ever, after all.
What do the Bossche Bol Easter eggs taste like?
In one word: delicious! Honestly, nothing beats a real Bossche Bol, and of course you can’t simply replicate that flavour in an Easter egg. Now that would be quite a stunt, wouldn’t it? But this is exactly the kind of Easter egg you can easily polish off an entire bag of. Deliciously creamy, deliciously sweet, and also pretty funny that it looks just like a mini Bossche Bol when you break it open, right? A brilliant sales trick by Jumbo, because people aren’t interested in regular flavours anymore, and we all know the disco-dip and salted-caramel flavours by now.

Want to try them yourself? You can buy a 200-gram bag of Bossche Bol Easter eggs for €2.39 at Jumbo. Stock up, why not? Jumbo is offering 3 bags of Easter eggs for €6. The offer runs until 1 April 2024, so you can still taste plenty of eggs for the time being. It does take a while before you gain a kilo from them.
