Who’s joining in with freezer roulette?

Society is invisibly divided. On one side of the divide: people who defrost their freezer on time and label the date and contents on all their freezer boxes. On the other side: people like Kelly, who every once in a while throw a mysterious block from the freezer into the pan.

Recognizable? No inclination, no time, no opportunity, so you dive into the freezer and defrost whatever you find there. What is it?

Pasta sauce, soup, jam?

Kelly defrosted a block that was no longer recognizable. It was red, so maybe pasta sauce, perhaps a ragù Bolognese or maybe strawberry compote – you simply can’t know. Her followers on Twitter think they recognize bell pepper, wonder whether chili beans are visible and guess goulash, but Kelly has never made that, so the chances of it coming from her freezer aren’t great.

Freezer roulette

Recognition all around. Twitter user Marloes calls it ‘freezer roulette’; she took something out of the freezer that she thought was pasta sauce, but it turned out to be tomato soup. Floor thought she was defrosting elderflower syrup, but it was asparagus stock. And Bastiaan was looking forward to some leftover macaroni, but it turned out he had defrosted chicory in cheese sauce. Mistakes happen, naturally.

Uh, what? How did that end up in your freezer? She explains: her husband works at a zoo and had put a urine sample in the freezer. Nice, that dedication to his work, but I’d still rather not find that between the fish sticks and the vanilla ice cream.

Add some pasta

Fortunately, Kelly’s adventure ends well. Spanish stew. With pasta, that is, because apparently Kelly did have something Italian in mind after all, but it tasted great!
