Why the wraps might disappear from McDonald’s

McDonald’s is known for many things, but in my opinion, its consistent quality is one that stands out. Whether you think that quality is good enough or not is entirely up to you, of course, but you can’t really deny that the items on the McDonald’s menu always taste more or less the same. Even when you’re abroad, by the way — and I genuinely think that’s quite impressive.

Unfortunately, that’s also the reason why McWraps don’t have a long life ahead of them in many countries… Is the Netherlands next to remove this item from the menu?

‘Operationally complex’

A former owner of a McDonald’s location explains the situation on TikTok. According to him, McWraps are ‘operationally complex’ and therefore ‘more difficult to make’. It also sounds quite logical: making burgers is truly routine work, while the wraps actually have to be rolled up, of course.

Admittedly, this TikToker owned a McDonald’s in America, where McWraps (called Snack Wraps there) have already been removed from the menu for some time. And according to him, the main reason isn’t the arguments above, but a very simple one: you’ll come to McDonald’s anyway, even if they may no longer have your favorite — according to him, you’ll just go back to your old-fashioned order anyway. And that’s the case with all limited items on the menu. For example, here in the Netherlands, where many people would really love to see the McRib return — those people will still go to McDonald’s and simply order what they always ordered, whether or not that McRib is on the menu. It actually sounds pretty logical.

In America’s case, Burger King is jumping straight into this wrap gap, by the way: they now have Royal Crispy Wraps on the menu there. Once again, very clever of them.
