Woman brings spacecake as a farewell treat

A farewell drinks party is so 2022; these days, we all just get completely wrecked on weed. That’s not really my thing, but I assume that was the line of thinking of the 29-year-old hotel employee who brought homemade brownie spacecake to her own farewell drinks party. HAHA, sorry — but in what world does this end well?

I don’t think such a world exists, and that’s exactly how this ended: not well.

‘Only eat it at home’

Treating your colleagues at the office can be a real minefield, as this proves once again. The woman had clearly instructed them to eat their piece (there were three grams of weed in the entire cake) at home, but not why. So five people ended up eating it at the office anyway… With all the consequences that entailed. Two of them became very ill: a female colleague had eaten a sizable piece and then vomited just as profusely. She felt extremely nauseous and high (surprisingly), had some gaps in her memory over the following days, and still felt so unwell that she had to call in sick the next day.

And she wasn’t even the worst off: a male colleague was completely out of it from the spacecake and woke up in a pool of vomit in the utility room. He was in such bad shape that he couldn’t even go home, but had to book a hotel that night.

‘I should have put a note with it’

The farewell treat therefore didn’t go down particularly well, which is why the former colleague was arrested and detained at the Penitentiary Institution in Middelburg. She admitted that her baking experiment hadn’t been particularly wise, and that she probably should have put a note with it explaining what was in the cake. She had thought that the detail that it also contained weed would spread like wildfire, but that was clearly not the case.

Fortunately, she could no longer be fired anyway, and the judge decided that community service wasn’t necessary either. In the end, she has to pay 276 euros to her former colleague (perhaps this person could still make a cake for the good-riddance colleague?), and she receives a suspended fine. Although I don’t think she’ll be bringing one of her creations to her welcome drinks party at her new job anytime soon…
