Cannabis Beer: Not High, Just Relaxed

cbd bier

After weed wine, CBD sriracha and weed burgers, a CBD beer was, of course, bound to follow. Monday, June 1, is the day: that’s when the ‘fresh green beer with a grassy finish’ hits the market.

Bronckhorster De Groene Buizerd is its name. And although its appearance is rather Irish, the beer really does come from the Achterhoek region, from Bronckhorster brewery. It was initially brewed for the—by its own account rather ‘relaxed’—Mañana Mañana festival. But of course, that festival isn’t going ahead now, so the beer is being sold independently.

The beer contains CBD oil, without the active compound THC. “So it won’t get you high. We mainly wanted to focus on the positive effect of CBD oil. Many people take it daily and benefit from it,” says Raymon Gammage, one of the creators, in EditieNL.

‘Grassy’

I also drip CBD oil myself from time to time and, unlike my colleague Laura, I do experience some positive effects from it. But it certainly isn’t tasty. People call it ‘earthy’, or, like these brewers, ‘grassy’, but I still find those rather kind terms for something that makes your head spontaneously go into a spasm when you taste it.

Anyway: I haven’t tasted it in this beer form yet, so who knows, maybe it’s absolutely delicious. For now, we won’t find out, because the beer is already sold out! “We have been overwhelmed by positive reactions and orders,” the makers write on their website. To make sure they still have enough beer for Monday’s launch, they have temporarily stopped sales on the site. But don’t worry: “If stock allows, we’ll put the beer back online on Tuesday.”

Do take note

The health claims surrounding CBD oil have not yet been scientifically proven. Also take care when drinking this beer. CBD may possibly enhance the effects of alcohol, so don’t drink too much of it. Or, as the makers put it: “It comes in 0.75-litre bottles. It’s really meant to be shared.”
