World-famous artwork on your sandwich
If you’re so bored that you don’t know what to do with yourself anymore, you can always make a world-famous artwork out of your sandwich. Need inspiration? These idiots beat you to it.
Your imagination takes a surprising turn when you suddenly recognize a Dalí in a slice of luncheon meat, or manage to create the Last Supper with a cream cheese sandwich. Are you doing okay?
No cheating
But perhaps, in these times of keeping yourself and your housemates busy, it’s a brilliant plan to explore art history and then look in the fridge to see how you can copy a masterpiece. Wait a minute: isn’t this an incredibly educational assignment for all those homeschooling children? And no cheating with ketchup from a squeeze bottle and mayo from a tube—that’s really too easy.
Arty-farty lunch boxes
These artistic lunch boxes originally come from Germany, where people posted photos on Twitter of their sandwiches and the artwork they happened to resemble, more or less by accident (yeah, right). Blogger Marie Sophie Hingst started it, and with the hashtag #KunstgeschichteAlsBrotbelag, other art and bread enthusiasts joined in too. SadAndUseless collected the best examples.
Get to work with peanut butter and avocado
A self-portrait of Frida Kahlo on a sandwich with avocado, grapes, cream cheese and candy is a precise job, just like recreating Van Gogh’s starry sky with cucumber, banana and bell pepper. Not very handy or creative? Luckily, there are plenty of abstract artworks, such as Rothko’s, that can be imitated quite well with a smear of jam and a slab of peanut butter.
