You can now buy ham and cheese croquettes at Lidl, and they are delicious
Crazy about Manchego cheese, Serrano ham and croquettes? Then this is the ultimate drinks snack for you: crispy Spanish croquettes filled with the most famous Spanish ham and cheese! Olé!
Recently, we were pleasantly surprised by the Tyrolean week at Lidl supermarket, when you could pick up mini beer kegs, traditional Spätzle and divine Toblerone lava cakes zu hausse. This week, Lidl is all about Spain and Portugal, which means that the supermarket is packed with Mediterranean specialties, such as crema catalana, mini churros, patatas bravas and, of course, these delicious ham and cheese croquettes.
Holiday croquette
Huge quantities of ‘Croquetas’ are snacked on in Spain during tapas. These small croquettes are filled with all kinds of ingredients and a super-creamy béchamel sauce. In Spain, croquetas filled with jamón are especially popular. Making this tapa yourself is not something you can do just like that; it is a time-consuming job. Great: now you can eat this holiday snack from the comfort of your garden chair without having to spend hours in the kitchen. Melted cheese, with pieces of Serrano ham (which is very different from Ibérico ham) wrapped in a crispy coating—that’s surely tempting, right? Add some sangria and let the drinks begin!
The Spanish and Portuguese promotion lasts one week. You can get a bag of croquetas for just €1.50, and you will find them in the freezer section.
Add some jamón and dig in!
A croquette like this is delicious on a white baguette spread with olive oil. On top: a slice of Serrano ham, and the croquette on top of that. For true jamón lovers: serve it with a board of thinly sliced Spanish ham. Serrano ham is always a good choice anyway. If you want to try something different, go for Ibérico ham, a strongly flavored and slightly sweet cured ham from a pig that eats nothing but acorns. Need more tips?
