10x food that’s grossly delicious #17

Think you sometimes have strange eating habits? You’re not the only one, because we all have a soft spot for food that’s both gross and delicious. We’ve collected another ten editorial favorites. Gross or gold, you be the judge!

Brie with ketchup
Bo: ‘Brie with ketchup—you read that right. A slice of brie with ketchup on top of a slice of baguette. I admit it’s a bit awkward when I ask for ketchup while eating out, but I’d rather give in to my guilty pleasure than give in to embarrassment and discomfort. Because brie with ketchup… just try it.’

Bell pepper with satay sauce
Bo: ‘Imagine this happening: while cooking at the table, you drop your strip of bell pepper into the satay sauce. Throw it away? No, eat it! According to my boyfriend, it’s incredibly, uh… delicious; he also loves dipping bell pepper in warm satay sauce. The freshness of the bell pepper with the delicious ready-made peanut sauce… the perfect combination. FavorFlav’s Wieke also can’t imagine life without Wijko…’
Raw mushrooms
Bo: ‘Fried mushrooms—I can’t stand them. Those soggy things in your mouth, yuck. I’d rather eat them raw. Nice and crunchy, much better. Opinions are strongly divided on this, but for me it’s a tasty snack.’
Fried egg with ossenworst
FavorFlav’s Sharon is a genius in the kitchen too. Because what do you think she puts in her fried egg? Ossenworst. Sharon: ‘I only do this when I’m home alone, because my husband and child can’t stand it. But sometimes I really crave it. Regular ossenworst doesn’t do much for me, but fried in an egg, with some pickles on the side, it’s delicious (and gross).’
Macaroni or spaghetti sandwich
Do you still just put cheese on your sandwich? BORING! Because a macaroni or spaghetti sandwich is much tastier—according to some, anyway. Next-level leftover management. We learned from a reliable, anonymous source here in the editorial office (embarrassing, really?) that the sandwich is best when you heat up the pasta first, with extra cheese for extra meltiness. Truth or dare?
Popcorn with Tabasco
Sharon: ‘Popcorn with Tabasco—when I recently saw this at Lidl, I, a popcorn lover through and through, had to buy it immediately. I ripped open the bag in the car. The first bite was disappointing—the association with vomit even briefly crossed my mind. But that’s how it goes with quality snacking; the bag was emptied. Honestly, it was delicious and gross at the same time. And all for just one euro.’

Fries dipped in a kroket
Bo: ‘My father doesn’t eat his kroket and fries separately—no, he has developed a style all his own for eating these snack-bar classics. He dips the fries into his kroket. And when that’s gone, he continues dipping them into a cheese soufflé. Fortunately, it’s hereditary.’
Sandwich with
Delicious, a white sandwich with ketchup and mayo. No sausage, you read that right. Just a sandwich with. But without anything. Still following? Thanks for the tip, editorial friend!
Buttermilk with squash syrup
We previously wrote about the popular horror drink ‘Karnejus‘. We can’t understand why people voluntarily drink this at the editorial office. But it turns out there are also people bold enough to mix buttermilk with squash syrup, preferably strawberry or raspberry syrup. No words. (Unless you’re still in kindergarten, in which case it’s allowed.)
Deluxe croissant
Bo: ‘A croissant topped with cheese, sure. But a colleague of my mother’s takes it two steps further. She spreads jam on top, followed by sprinkles. A hit since her childhood. Worth trying?’
