Albert Heijn employee shows how she packs donuts and people are going wild
Many supermarket secrets have long since stopped being so secret. For example, we’ve known for quite some time about the sneaky tricks they use to make you pay more. Supermarket employees have their own secrets and tricks too. An employee of Albert Heijn has now gone viral with a video in which she shows a genius hack for packing donuts super quickly.
And it immediately answers an important question too: why is one donut in so many donut boxes turned the ‘wrong’ way around?
Packing donuts at Albert Heijn at lightning speed
Who doesn’t know them: the plastic boxes of Albert Heijn donuts in 5 different colors and flavors. They fly off the shelves at the supermarket. Everyone has their own favorite; I always grab the pink strawberry donut from the box first. These donuts are packed by hand by Albert Heijn employees. Of course, you can do it one by one. But do you always have the time for that (and, more importantly, feel like doing it)? No. So an Albert Heijn employee came up with a genius trick that lets her put the donuts into the plastic containers in no time.

The different donut flavors and colors are delivered to the store in large boxes, sorted by variant. The Albert Heijn employee turns over an entire box of donuts at a time and stacks the batches on top of each other. This way, each flavor and color ends up lying on top of the next. The employee then takes a row of 5 donuts at a time and puts them into a plastic container in one go.
Genius
People think the Albert Heijn employee’s trick is genius. An especially striking number of (former) Albert Heijn employees are going wild. ‘We’ve been doing it wrong all these years,’ ‘This is easier, why did we never think of this with the far too small counter?’ and ‘How come we never discovered this trick?’ are just a few of the Facebook reactions. The video has now been viewed almost 1.5 million (!) times. From now on, you’ll never look at that box of donuts the same way again. Nor at the Albert Heijn employees in the bakery, because you now know the trick they use to get those donuts into the box.
