Chefs from famous restaurants take over the kitchen at Van der Valk

The restaurants are closed, but the hotels are still operating. At Van der Valk in Amersfoort, the hotel and nearby restaurants are joining forces for a Restaurant Roulette: every week, a different chef from a fine local restaurant takes charge of the hotel kitchen.

Quite apart from all the financial hardship, for people who love cooking delicious food for guests, not being allowed to work at all for weeks—no, months—is an enormous challenge. No full restaurant, no kitchen frenzy, no post-shift drinks: none of it. They miss it. And that while hotels are simply allowed to stay open!

Five kitchen teams

Van der Valk Hotel Amersfoort-A1 has come up with a special solution: they are going to collaborate with well-known restaurants in Amersfoort. These restaurants will take over the hotel kitchen, allowing them to prepare and serve their favorite dishes to hotel guests. Van der Valk calls it Restaurant Roulette. From today through 17 December, five different kitchen teams will be working behind the stoves at Van der Valk. The participating restaurants are Merlot, Kade 10, Salentijn, Alberts and Jackie Brown.

Applesauce

Every day, one of those kitchen teams takes charge, so what you get and who cooks it remains a surprise—but applesauce with a cherry probably won’t be on the menu. Would anyone dare to put that famous schnitzel on the menu?
