7 desserts that won’t make you super fat

ZOMERFRUIT MET SCHAPENLABNE
Now that we’re mostly working from home, it’s easy to make yet another trip to the fridge or cookie tin, right? And we’re still cooking up a storm together, although the hospitality industry is now even better at delivering or offering takeout of amazing restaurant meals for home. (Rijsttafel at home, what a treat!) So can you already see the kilos piling on again? Then we recommend these desserts that are just a little lighter!

Because especially at the weekend, dessert is often part of the cosy ritual of cooking and eating together. But if you’ve given in a little too often to guilty pleasures like Oreo-Nutella ice cream or one of those seriously naughty KitKat-Rolo cakes, you may be looking for ideas that offer a little balance. No problem, we’ve got you covered:

Carrot cake

Of course, carrot cake contains sugar too, but you can partly replace it with unsweetened applesauce. Instead of the standard frosting, this Airfryer carrot cake is also delicious with a dollop of Greek yoghurt. And if you’re still wondering whether it’s really that healthy: it contains CARROT. I rest my case.

Frozen bananas in dark chocolate

Easy and delicious, and filling too. Dip pieces of frozen banana (on a stick) in melted chocolate with a teaspoon of coconut oil, sprinkle with some coarse salt or desiccated coconut if you like, and leave to set in the fridge on some baking paper. Super easy.

Oat cookies with grated apple or applesauce

They’re quick to make, with just a few ingredients that you probably already have at home. This recipe from Uit Pauline’s keuken will guide you right through it! And you know what else you can do? Add a pinch of cocoa powder, and you’ll be getting very close to a proper indulgent cookie…

Smoothie popsicles

Get those popsicle moulds out of the junk cupboard, even though summer is over. We’re making smoothie popsicles, and no one will complain anymore that they never get anything tasty… Make a smoothie in the blender with whatever you like. Need a tip? How about banana, peanut butter, shaved dark chocolate, a little honey and almond milk? Pour the mixture into the moulds, add the sticks and within an hour or two you can hand out popsicles all weekend. Or eat them yourself.

Baked apples with cinnamon

What is it about warm apples that makes them smell so delicious immediately and turns them into the ultimate example of comfort food? Luckily, you can enjoy this wonderfully warming fruit all year round even without the pie around it. Fry a few peeled apples, cut into wedges, in a little butter or neutral oil, sprinkle with cinnamon and eat them straight from a bowl. On the sofa with a blanket. Well, you certainly won’t feel sorry for yourself or like you’re on a diet then…

Banana ice cream with coconut

Remember that ultra-easy recipe for ice cream with just one ingredient, for which you don’t even need an ice cream maker? We already said you can add anything you like, and desiccated coconut works really well in it too. Get creative!

Summer fruit with Ottolenghi’s labneh

This does contain some sugar, but not much. And it looks fantastic, is wonderfully refreshing, and is easy to make with frozen fruit even outside the summer season. In short, nothing is standing between you and a beautiful, healthy dessert!
