Culinary food from the wall – coming soon to Stolwijk

Food from the wall is tasty, easy and nobody says no to a frikandel special, but you can’t really call it culinary. Until now, that is, because restaurant owner Frank Streefland is building a culinary snack wall. You’ll pull culinary snacks from the wall, completely corona-proof and – or so it sounds – incredibly delicious.

No one had thought of putting something other than hamburgers and frikandellen behind the little compartments of such a vending machine. Frank Streefland is the brains behind the culinary snack wall in Stolwijk. He owns restaurant De Nieuwe Polderkeuken, but it has been closed tight for months. Frank isn’t sitting around moping; he came up with something new: the culinary snack wall.

Crayfish hot dog

Soon, you’ll be able to pull a quick snack from his wall, such as his bitterbal made with Stolwijk cheese, but you can also put together an entire menu – as long as you have enough coins in your pocket. What is Frank putting in the compartments? A crayfish hot dog, mashed potatoes with a meatball or other culinary dishes; prices range from four to ten euros.

‘Tasty polder snackie’

The finishing touches are currently being made to the renovations. It’s going to be quite a spectacle: lighting that will allow you to see the restaurant from kilometres away, a wall for taking selfies next to the text ‘Do you think I’m a tasty polder snackie’ and a livestream studio. Frank’s vending machine will open on 5 February.

Serving up a storm at De Zwarte Cross

Frank isn’t the first with a culinary snack wall, though. Two years ago, one-Michelin-star Restaurant Basiliek from Harderwijk served up caviar, guinea fowl and lobster from a vending machine at De Zwarte Cross. Amid the loud music and mud, festivalgoers could pull a poached egg with caviar, mayonnaise and a sprig of this or that from the wall.
