Ding dong, pizza for Jean again – and he didn’t order anything
Is it a joke? Then it’s getting seriously out of hand: Jean Van Landeghem has been receiving regular pizza deliveries for nine years, but he didn’t order them at all. In fact, he doesn’t even like the pizzas from the pizzeria. ‘I always eat frozen pizza from Aldi.’ Who keeps sending Jean all those pizzas?
It started nine years ago: suddenly, a pizza delivery driver was standing at Jean Van Landeghem’s door in Turnhout with a load of pizzas. But Jean hadn’t ordered anything, so the driver turned around and left. Since then, the 65-year-old Belgian has regularly had someone ring his doorbell with a tasty order. Who’s doing it? Jean has no idea. His name, address and phone number are provided with the order.
He’d rather have fries
Sometimes as many as fourteen pizzas are delivered at once, and in January ten different delivery drivers showed up in a single day. Jean immediately sends all the ordered food back. That’s what the police advised him to do when he filed a report. Besides, Jean isn’t really a fan of pizza. He prefers fries and, when he’s in the mood for Italian food, he buys frozen pizzas at Aldi. A female friend from Herenthout is experiencing exactly the same thing, so Jean concludes that it must be someone from their shared circle of friends.
Not celebrating a birthday
Is it a criminal offense to order food for someone else? It’s a grey area. It is a waste, though, because the pizzeria has to throw away the food and the delivery driver has gone out for nothing. It’s strange, really, that Jean’s address isn’t printed in huge letters at the top of the blacklist used by Belgian delivery companies. Jean has had enough of the joke: if he finds out who’s playing this prank on him, that person won’t be celebrating their birthday anytime soon, he warns.
