‘Get out of here’ – this restaurant owner has zero patience for rude guests

What do you do when guests are rude to the staff? This chef from Cardiff took decisive action. A group of loudmouth jerks at his restaurant Cora behaved so badly that the next day he sent them a very pissed-off email…

A familiar story for most people who work in hospitality: some guests are rude, loud, and downright annoying. How do you deal with that? Sometimes you’re cheeky enough to say something, while at other times it seems wiser to simply ignore that bizarre behavior.
Lily works at restaurant Cora in Cardiff, and in her neighborhood she ran into a group of miserable guys. They were rude and even tried to touch her. When Lily and her boss Lee, who is also the restaurant’s chef, discussed it afterward, Lee felt guilty that he hadn’t done anything to protect Lily.

Taking action
Lee fired off an email and sent the guests a polite but exceptionally clear message. The gist? This group may have paid a huge bill for their dinner—£1,100, no less—but Lee would refund their money. He kindly asked them never to return to his restaurant and suggested they take a look at their other friends, because this group was simply one hundred percent bad news. Oh, and he kept £100 from the bill to give to Lily. She had certainly earned it after that awful experience, and the group had—of course—not left a penny in tip.
Grabbing bottoms
After sleeping on it, Lee did regret his email a little. Not that he had banned the guests from his restaurant, but the refund didn’t sit right with him. He decided to give the money to Lily instead. He shared the story on Twitter, and boy, did it take off. Many people wrote about their experiences in restaurants. Guests who grab bottoms, complain about nothing, and loudly bother other guests: it’s ridiculous.
Bye, guys
There’s a postscript to the story, too. A law firm read Lee’s posts and realized that those super-annoying guests were probably a team of senior employees from their company. There’s going to be a serious conversation about that…
