Hot (or rather: ice-cold) news: Ben & Jerry’s sneakers

Gympen-Favorflav

Why hasn’t a new Ben & Jerry’s flavor appeared on the market for a while? Because friends Ben and Jerry have suddenly started designing sneakers for Nike. You can’t eat that, but it does result in a very fine pair of sneakers. Want, want, want!

If you’ve had your nose in cookbooks all day, you may have missed it, but apparently the Nike SB Dunk Low is an insanely popular sneaker. At least, the people at Nike hadn’t missed it. And they’re not celebrating that success with a tub of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream; instead, they let the ice cream brand’s designers loose on their sneaker design. The result: a mouthwatering-looking sneaker. With that blue cloudy sky, green grass, cow spots and the deliciously bright colors that you also recognize from Ben & Jerry’s cheerful packaging.

Rare sneaker?

The shoe is called Chunky Dunky, as a tribute to Chunky Monkey, Ben & Jerry’s most famous flavor, and the sneaker itself, Dunk Low. When will this trendy item go on sale? That’s not known yet. And whether this will be a very rare sneaker that you’ll have to queue for or scour the internet to find is also still a closely guarded secret.

Food in fashion

Ben & Jerry’s on sneakers isn’t the first food brand to venture into fashion, by the way. Earlier, Febo in fashion made its mark with a collection including furry slippers and a tracksuit. McDonald’s designed a heroic Nike Air with fries on the shoe’s tongue, and Gucci also has a thing for delicious food: it opened a restaurant by Massimo Bottura in its Los Angeles store. It works the other way around too: Nike made sneakers as an ode to the bakers of Paris.
