Lidl cheapest supermarket for organic products

Do you also like buying organic products? Then we have doubly good news for you. The price difference between organic and non-organic food has fallen over the past 5 years. And if you want the very best organic deals, Lidl is the place to go. Organic products are 18% cheaper at Lidl than at other supermarkets.

Lidl is not only the champion of tasty snacks, but also scores very highly when it comes to healthy food. For example, Lidl is chosen incredibly often as the ‘best supermarket for fruit and vegetables‘. This is a highly coveted award presented by the institute Growth from Knowledge (better known as GfK).
And now Lidl can add another achievement to its list. A study into the prices of organic products published this week, conducted by the Consumentenbond, shows that organic groceries are cheapest at Lidl.
Organic groceries cheapest at Lidl
For the study, the Consumentenbond examined the prices of 135 organic (own-brand) products at 8 regular and 2 organic supermarket chains. In terms of organic selection at regular supermarkets, Albert Heijn, Jumbo and Plus may have the largest ranges, but Lidl is the cheapest for organic products. Dirk also scores well when it comes to affordable organic groceries.
The price difference between organic and non-organic food has overall fallen from 63% to 48% over the past 5 years. This means that organic products at regular supermarkets are, on average, 48% more expensive than non-organic alternatives (note: the difference is not equally large for all products). The study also shows that organic products are 18% cheaper at Lidl than at other supermarkets.
Lidl ambitious when it comes to organic products
Around 20% of Lidl’s fruit and vegetable range is already organic. And by always maintaining the lowest price in the market, choosing organic is also an easy decision for many customers. Lidl has ambitious plans: in the coming years, the supermarket chain will focus even more on organic fruit and vegetables. By 2026, revenue from organic fruit and vegetables should have doubled compared with 2022, according to Maurits Wösten, Lidl Netherlands’ purchasing manager for fruit and vegetables.
