Loaded fries, fries topped with a combination of surprising ingredients, are becoming increasingly popular in snackland. And the selection goes far beyond fries with pulled pork. In fact, the toppings are getting more and more unusual.
Loaded star-chef fries
Like the loaded fries from star chef Sergio Herman. Inspired by his travels (have you seen the wonderful ‘Van de kaart’ program?) and experiences in different cuisines, he created two Frites Specials with completely different flavors: ‘Classic Spiced Indonesian Stew’ and the vegetarian ‘My Umami’ (now available at Frites Atelier).
Loaded comfort fries
Cafetaria-Eetmakerij Pelkhuisje takes a different approach—call it loaded comfort fries. What can you expect? Fries with special autumnal toppings, such as Brussels sprouts fries (fries with fried Brussels sprouts, bacon bits and brandy mayonnaise), farmers’ fries (fries with farmers’ sauce made from onion, bacon, smoked sausage, various vegetables and hunter’s sauce) and smoked sausage fries (fries with deep-fried smoked sausage and mayo-honey-mustard sauce). That last one does sound worth taking a detour for.
