Mac & Cheese ice cream exists and, believe it or not: it’s actually delicious

There’s news that makes us very happy, and there’s news that makes some of us very angry. The existence of Mac & Cheese ice cream fell into the latter category. “Food waste!” people cried. But is that really the case?

From chocobitterballen to ketchup bonbons; retailers come up with the craziest things to attract attention. The same goes for Owowcow ice cream parlor in Pennsylvania. For their rotating ‘limited edition ice cream’ flavor, they came up with Mac & Cheese.
As a warm, steaming, creamy macaroni dish, it’s a classic of the highest order. But as ice cream?! Doesn’t that take away everything good about Mac & Cheese? Not for us.
The verdict
Luckily, American author Chuck Wendig (known for the bestselling Star Wars novel Aftermath) was willing to give it a try and shared his findings in a hilarious report on Twitter.
His first conclusion is clear:
REVIEW: mistakes were made

While the ice cream base itself actually had potential. And we can understand that: sweet and salty simply go very well together. Just think of Moroccan bastilla or sweet-and-spicy chicken wings, or the classic of classics: salted caramel.
Like, cheddar sweet cream ice cream is actually pretty fucking good. The base is amazing. Sweet-but-normally-savory-cheese is a real damn thing and I support it. But. BUT.

The problem is the frozen macaroni. Because, well, it won’t surprise you: it doesn’t work.
You cannot freeze pasta. It turns into fucking ice marbles. Damn near broke my teeth on this shit. There are also bacon crumbles but they’re largely lost to the rest of it.

In fact, it can break your teeth.
MY MOUF IS BROK

Chuck’s advice:
But if they ever made this again using the cheddar sweet cream base, I’d be SO in. That part works, and works well.
