Michelin Stars 2023: all the winners and losers at a glance
Fingers crossed for the Dutch culinary scene today: during the Michelin Guide Ceremony in Amsterdam, the new Michelin stars for 2023 have just been announced. Which restaurants will receive their first star or even multiple stars this year? We’ve listed them for you.
Last week, Michelin was briefly but intensely in the news. Just like a few years ago, stars were leaked prematurely again. But this time it turned out to be fake news about the new Michelin stars. This became clear mainly because the leaked photo showed an enormous number of new Bib Gourmands, while Michelin awarded only 8 this year.
8 New Bib Gourmands in 2023
This year’s 8 new Bib Gourmands were awarded to:
- Lazuur, Amsterdam
- Wils Bakery Café, Amsterdam
- De Voorburcht, Hattem
- HAVN, Hoorn
- Bistrot Regent, Nijmegen
- Rotonde, Rotterdam
- Poortman, Veeningen
- Senang, Zwolle (from star couple Jonnie and Thérèse Boer)
17 new Michelin stars in 2023
* according to Michelin, one star means: high-quality cooking, worth a stop.
Michelin awarded one star seventeen times today. They went to:
- Karel 5 Utrecht
- Chateau Neercanne, Maastricht
- VanderVeen, Amsterdam
- Lizz, Gouda
- Flavours, Weert
- Brass Boer Thuis, Zwolle
- Bistro de la Mer, Amsterdam
- Central Park, Voorburg
- Restaurant Smink, Wolvega
- Studio, Maastricht
- Maeve, Utrecht
- Coulisse, Amsterdam
- Codium, Goes
- De Woage, Gramsbergen
- Yama, Rotterdam
- Au Coin des Bon Enfants, Maastricht
- Basiliek, Harderwijk
Michelin Young Chef Award 2023
The Michelin Young Chef Award 2023 went to Yornie van Dijk of Basiliek in Harderwijk. As a true team player, an overjoyed Yornie responded: ‘A wonderful distinction, which I would like to dedicate to my team.’
Sommelier Award 2023
A completely overwhelmed Nadine Mögling of Bij Jeff in Den Hoorn (Texel) received Michelin’s Sommelier Award 2023. ‘I really didn’t expect this at all. I don’t quite know what to say, but I am certainly very grateful, especially to my permanent team.’
Green stars in 2023
Combining gastronomy with sustainability—that is what a green Michelin star is all about. In the Michelin Guide, a green star is awarded to chefs who are particularly inspiring and ambitious, and whose meaningful initiatives result in a sustainable approach to gastronomy. Four new green stars were awarded this year:
- Hof aan Zee, Koudekerke
- Restaurant Rotonde, Rotterdam
- Morille, Koudekerke
- De Dyck, Woubrugge
1 new two-star Michelin restaurant
** according to Michelin, two stars mean: excellent cooking, worth a detour.
Only one second star was awarded this year. It went to:
- Vinkeles, Amsterdam
Chef Jurgen van der Zalm accepted the distinction. He succeeded chef Dennis Kuipers, who cooked at Vinkeles with one star. After one year of Jurgen van der Zalm as chef, Vinkeles has now gained its second star.
Third Michelin star 2023
*** three stars mean according to Michelin: exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey.
Although there was plenty of speculation about a possible third star for restaurant Fred, no new third star was awarded today.
Michelin star lost in 2023
It wasn’t a celebration for every hospitality entrepreneur today. As every year, some stars were also lost. These establishments lost their star:

- Sabero, Roermond
- Lastage, Amsterdam
- Tilia, Etten-Leur
- Noble, ’s-Hertogenbosch
- Het Roode Koper, Leuvenum
- Wollerich, Sint-Oedenrode
- Katseveer, Wilhelminadorp
- Mijn Keuken, Wouw
