Mike Tyson (the ear-biting boxer) is now selling highly appropriate candy with a special ingredient
Among our readers are plenty of youngsters, but also quite a few people who, like me, are old enough to have experienced this moment very consciously: boxer Mike Tyson biting a piece out of his opponent Evander Holyfield’s ear during the world title fight in 1997. The world was in shock! And twenty-five years later, Tyson has found another way to cash in on this moment…
With candy shaped like an ear with a piece bitten out of it. Holyfield did win that particular match, by the way, but ended it with one less piece of body part. An adult athlete biting an opponent; we also saw it during the 2014 World Cup, when Luis Suárez bit an opponent’s shoulder hard enough to draw blood, and it remains bizarre. The fact that you can have so little control over your impulses is incredible, which is why this ingredient in Tyson’s new candy is such an appropriate wink:

Cannabis. That is, if it doesn’t make you freak out, because that can of course happen too. But if this candy helps you stay a little chill, that’s a nice bonus for hot-headed types. The candy is what they call ‘edibles’ in America: products containing the active ingredient THC from the cannabis plant.

So the candy is shaped like an ear with a piece bitten out of it, and is also blood red, so the memory of the ‘bite fight’ won’t be lost. The incident turned out to be—and remained—a lucrative PR machine for Tyson, who has once again found a way to make money from it with his Mike Bites, as the candy is called.
According to the media, the two rivals made up a long time ago. Tyson reportedly had to pay Holyfield three million dollars in damages at the time. And who knows, perhaps Holyfield is also earning a piece of the profits from this latest venture, while the two of them sit peacefully together on the couch, munching candy and watching boxing matches.
